Why so many people suffer with hip arthritis when hip replacement is such a miracle?
I suppose there is an element of fear at play for some people who would otherwise qualify for the surgery and have the funds or insurance to cover the cost but put it off. It is elective surgery which means it isn’t usually done on an emergency basis and the patient has to want to get his hips fixed. Even I fit into this category for longer than necessary. Why? I couldn’t believe that I could need such an operation. I thought it was for old people and I kept hoping that I could somehow work my arthritic joints out of the stiffness & pain. I read about the surgery and it sounded so radical that I would almost pass out from the description! Fast forward to today, 8 years after I had both hips replaced. I can walk without pain, crutches, pain meds, or a limp. I truly have my life back. There are some people in the US who really don’t have the $$ or aren’t covered by insurance, especially those who are not covered by an employer’s insurance plan but are also not yet 65 and covered by Medic
