Why so many lawyers for the Texas mormon polygamists cult parents?
My jaw drops when I hear those FLDS women say how happy they are in one breath, then the camera flashes to pregnant 13 year old girls in the next. Can you say Stockholm syndrome? Having studied cult induction and in my work with former cult members, I’m amazed at the beliefs they swallow. In the Jim Jones cult, members use to practice “obedience drills” because, in their minds, the cool aid was just a metaphor for our complete devotion and obedience to God, and therefore the poison cool aid drills were just a way to bring that home. A good thing became a way to control people. And what’s most amazing is prior to joining this cult, most were reasonable, productive members of society that got drawn in with interesting ideas, non Biblical of course, and then the coercive influence tactics took over as they got deeper and deeper.
