Why Smoke-free Homes?
Secondhand Smoke Kills: In June of 2006, U.S. Surgeon General Richard H. Carmona issued a comprehensive scientific report which concluded that there is no risk-free level of exposure to secondhand smoke. In addition, the report notes that because the bodies of infants and children are still developing, they are especially vulnerable to the poisons in secondhand smoke. The problem of children exposed to secondhand smoke is a major one. According to the American Lung Association, in the United States, 21 million, or 35 %, of children live in homes where residents or visitors smoke in the home on a regular basis. Reduced Fire Hazard: Smoking is the number one cause of fatal home fires. Not only smokers suffer from these fires.
