Why silver ring with stone can not be sized like the gold one?
Among metals silver has the highest thermal conductivity and this means that it is impossible to insulate the stone against the heat of the flame successfully enough to prevent the stone from being damaged; gold does not conduct the heat as well as silver and it means that after insulating the stone the sizing on the band of the ring can be performed successfully; what it means in practise is that to size silver ring with stone the stone would have to be taken out first and reset again after soldering which is usually either impossible or too costly to perform
