Why Silver Coins?
Silver can be purchased in bars, bullion, or coins, though investors typically find that coins offer bigger premiums and have higher demand. Silver half dollar coins, particularly the 1964 Kennedy, the Walking Liberty, and the Ben Franklin, are the most popular with investors for these reasons and because of their high silver content. Premiums depend on the demand for silver, and when demand is high, a 90 percent silver coin bag will gain $1.20 or more per ounce. It does fluctuate, and premiums can be higher or lower than those for bars depending on demand. While each of the three half dollars mentioned above have 90 percent silver contents, the Walking Liberty tends to net higher premiums than either of the other two. But these are still attractive to investors because they yield better returns than silver dimes or quarters. Generous premiums, traditionally high demand, and low initial investment make silver coins a solid investment.
