Why SHOULDNT smoking be banned in public places?

There are lots of things you can do that have a negative effect on others but that doesn’t necessarilly mean they should be banned. Living in a society *doesn’t mean no one ever doing anything that might annoy or harm anyone else*. It also means showing tolerance towards other people’s behaviour even if it has a negative effect on you. That is the only way we can get along. I would prefer to have the freedom to play loud music occasionally (though perhaps not too late at night) and to put up with the neighbour doing the same, rather than never having the freedom to play loud music at all . Moreover we tolerate people driving cars even though driving is arguably more harmful than smoking, and there is no legal ban on walking around with bad body odour etc. It is a matter of finding the right balance between personal freedoms, which we all need, and not harming everyone else *too* much.
