Why shouldn’t companies just remove the snow and ice manually before tractors and trailers begin their haul?
A. It is extremely risky to have workers and drivers clear snow and ice from a typical 13 foot high trailer. In addition to the physical injuries that could occur from a potential fall, workman’s compensation expenses would be incurred. Situations like this would result in delayed deliveries/pickups and the hiring of additional employees to replace the injured worker. Another consideration is that snow and ice can form during and after tractors and trailers reach their destination. Having driver’s clear snow and ice from their rooftops before, during and after the haul would not only be dangerous but more costly.
