Why should Utah store waste that is generated elsewhere?
Utahns benefit directly and indirectly from the use of radioactive materials. Radioactive materials are used in the development of new medicines, cancer diagnosis and treatment, inspection of airline luggage, the manufacture of steel and paper, in household smoke detectors, and in the sterilization of many household products such as childrens toys and medical instruments. Because we all benefit everyday from the use of many of these products, we all share in the responsibility to provide a safe location to dispose of these materials. It is irresponsible to enjoy the benefits of these products while at the same time opposing a safe solution for the disposal of the wastes that these products generate.
