Why should the Handmaids Tale be read in high schools?
well, I just finished reading the book for my A-Level course, and the course requires that you write a piece of creative writing that was inspired by the stimulus text. There are so many themes and such like that honestly you can write a story about nearly anything and be able to link it into the handmaid’s tale, which is incredibley useful as some texts are very limiting. As well as this, I personally found my eyes opened to literature with this book, having never really been adverntorous with my reading before, i found it inspiring & i instantly wanted to write about it and read other books similar to it. Although a lot of the themes in the book are quite adult, it is also good to see that not everything we learn in schools these days is sugar coated to make it more ‘suitable’ The literary techniques are also inspiring, and it makes the students think about differant styles, differant techniques that we would never have thought of before.
