Why Should The Drinking Age Be Lowered?

0

The drinking age for civilian populations should be raised for the following reasons… 1. In Canada and Europe, the drinking age is less than 21. 2. If you are old enough and resposible enough to vote, smoke ciggarettes, and drive. You should be considered old enough to drink. 3. States could require a mandatory 48 hour seminar on responsible drinking for citizens between 18 and 21. The drinking age for military personnel should DEFINATELY be raised for the following reasons. 1. At military balls, all personnel are allowed to participate in alcoholic toasts. 2. The drinking age for soldiers in Europe is already 18, to include on post bars and clubs. 3. Passing basic training proves that you are responsbile 4. Drinking for persons between ages 18 to 20 could be limited to on post only, therefore being directly controlled by the military. (meaning if they leave post, they can’t drink).

It should be lowered, as most 18 yo’s live at home still and thus would be under more supervision when they crack that first drink (Legally). The drinking age was 21 when I was 16, and that didn’t stop ANYONE from getting a hold of it. It just made everyone drink in back alleys, deserted parking lots, underage illegal clubs and clearings in the woods. Places where it was very easy to get into trouble that was not related to police or authorities. For the record, if they keep the drinking age 21, then they should lower it for Military members to 18. If you are responsible enough to sign on the line and pick that rifle up, then you are man or woman enough. Plus, after Boot Camp, everyone needs a cold one.

The US is has the highest drinking age in the world…hmmm… Having the legal drinking age at 21 forces teens to binge drink in secret, hidden from parents and other responsible adults. If the drinking age were 18, young adults would be able to drink legally, where they would be monitored by other responsible people. Drinking shouldn’t be a forbidden thing…it should be taught responsibly to young adults so they have the ability to make educated decisions about alcohol as they get older. If drinking is forbidden until an older age, young adults will not be familiar with how to responsibly handle alcohol. I googled some info on DUI’s & drunk driving & randomly saw this fact: In 2004, the average age of arrested DUI offenders in the US was 33.2 years old. Less than 1% of DUI offenders were juveniles (under 18). http://www.adp.ca.gov/FactSheets/Driving… Associations like MADD make young

If the U.S. lowered the drinking age from 21 to 18 the young people would have a better chance to drink responsibly. In countries like Germany and France kids are allowed to buy alcohol at 16 and can drink alcohol in front of their parents. Everyone has the right to drink booze.
