Why should taxpayers have to stump up £1.2m to subsidise crickets selfish undemocratic test match daydreams?
It could be worse, tax payers could be made to stump up £64 billion pounds funding unelected quangos…. Oh wait that already happens! lol. More seriously, and to be fair, £1.2 million pounds is a drop in the ocean compared to what the government is wasting on things like the Olympics and on trying to produce a half decent tennis player (the LTA gets around £43 million a year, the Olympics is costing several billion to stage). Besides that £1.2 million will be earned back hundreds of times over from staging international games at the SWALEC stadium (which in turn will mean more money goes back into the economy in terms of the taxes they’ll have to pay). Also, it’s not like the government has paid for the entire project, funding has come from other sources too. Of course that’s not to say I’m justifying the expense but if the project enables Wales to hold more international events then it’s a good thing.
