Why should students participate in IB?
The IB program is recognized internationally, and students who successfully earn the IB Diploma are highly regarded by colleges and universities worldwide. Many universities recognize the accomplishments of IB Diploma recipients by granting admission, advanced placement and possible course credit. There are practical reasons for students to consider pursuit of an IB diploma: (1) the diploma requirements are consistent with the new state content standards and college admissions requirements adopted for use in Oregon; (2) it will have a positive impact by raising the level of expectation and performance for each student; and (3) it may enable a student to be eligible for advanced placement and/or course credit at the college level. The best reason, however, for pursuing this program is that IB can be counted as a quality opportunity for a student to prepare him/herself for life after high school.
