• It is true that the articles for Practicing Geophysics easily could be covered by either Geophysics or TLE, perhaps with some expansion of their sections. The point here, however, is not about distributing and partitioning available articles. Many of the technical geophysics projects done in the oil and service companies are recorded only as PowerPoint presentations. Only a tiny fraction (~1%?) have been developed into articles. Geophysics only had roughly 30 unsolicited submissions from oil companies from July 2006 to June 2007. This is a very small number in comparison with the number (360) of total submissions to Geophysics, and in consideration of the number of oil companies and the number of SEG members (~30,000). Permission to publish might be obtained for a much larger fraction (say, a few %?) if the practicing geophysicists in the industry give publication higher priority. • If the new journal experiment leads to the launch of Practicing Geophysics, the new journal’s success
