1. they do not represent the people, they represent a certain group of people with particular views that may not be shared by every body. They have no right to tell others how to live. 2. The seperation of church and state itself is a fundemental tennant of Liberal Democracy, that the state will consider what is good for the entire state as a whole and not just one group, particularly in social decisions such as abortion etc. 3. Relgion is not compatible with common sense on many issues such as homosexuality and gender equality. The books of the major world religion were written by fallable people like you and I, the new testament for example was compiled at the behest of a Roman Emperor and many gospels were destroyed because they went against ‘gods will’. Such think is dangerous in Politics.
