Why should Pluto be considered a planet?

0

Pluto has been down graded to less than a planet, because bigger objects that are not planets have been found. The scientific community wants to remain consistent, and have set up definite criteria to define the difference between a planet, and a minor planet. I think down grading Pluto is a mistake. Yes, Pluto does not meet the revised definition of a planet, but it has been a planet for a very long time. School children know that there are 9 planets in the solar system. Now there are only 8 planets in the solar system. It makes the scientists world nice and orderly, but it adds confusion for the rest of us. There is nothing wrong with having an exception to the rule. It doesn’t force all other larger objects, or objects with orbiting satelites, to be named planets also. This is just a waste of time and energy and money to rewrite textbooks and argue about it. I was disappointed when it happend.
