Why should my 340B eligible facility join the Prime Vendor Program?
All 340B eligible facilities should join the PVP to access additional sub-340B discounts on outpatient drug purchases. Discounts with pharmaceutical manufacturers can only be achieved if critical masses of covered entities pool their purchasing volumes. The program provides the only means for disproportionate share hospitals to conduct group purchasing with their outpatient 340B eligible drug purchases. Other covered entities can benefit from the Prime Vendor Program’s leveraging the large hospitals’ volumes and influence with pharmaceutical manufacturers. There are no risks or costs to join the program. Facilities can continue to use their existing distributors or they can switch to an alternate distributor if the existing one is not meeting their needs.
