Why should men be bigger than women?
The conventional wisdom on this is that this represents the outcome of competition among males for access to women. Why are men’s testes smaller than chimpanzees (but bigger than gorillas)? Sex for gorillas is tidily short and infrequent. For chimps sex is, so’s to speak, the glue that holds their society together, and is frequent. Mankind falls somewhere in between the extremes. For a gorilla to have massive testes would be a waste of energy which could be better used on other biological functions. Male chimps need copious quantities of sperm in their attempts to inseminate promiscuous female chimps. Man once again falls gloriously in the middle here. His testes size is somewhere between the gorilla and the chimp. Why do humans have sex in private (other social animals do it in public)?
