Why should I use DET strips instead of traditional fluorescein diagnostic strips?
The traditional fluorescein strip delivers up to 17 µL of fluid to the tear film, which floods the normal tear film’s 3 to 7 µL volume. The tear film is not in a natural state due to the extra fluid added by the strip; therefore, TBUT is unreliable. DET strips are designed to accurately measure TBUT in a repeatable fashion. The DET strip only adds 1 µL of fluid to the tear film, which does not compromise the TBUT reading. TBUT can be repeated at subsequent visits with confidence.
