honing removes all the surface flaw making a smoother finish for a more brilliant glossy shine. Honning is done in stages depending on how deep the surface damage is. For instance a 3 stage polish = hone 400grit, 800grit, highshine polish. Each cutting grit,Hone or polish is 1 stage On some stones like green marble and granite Their are even more steps involved. On some worn stone floors there is no polish without the hone and other times its just how brilliant of a shine do you want for your money.
