Why should I care when China is building one new coal fired power station a week?
The reason the power stations are being built is to cater for our individual demand. One of the ways to stop the building of coal fired stations is to cut our consumption of fossil fuels and switch to renewable energy sources such as a green tariff from an energy supplier. There will then be less of a requirement for governments and power companies to build dirty power stations. As consumers, we need to support renewable technologies so that governments and power companies change their thinking and investment strategy. Notwithstanding the continued building of coal-fired power stations, there are positive signs that Governments are trying to come up with a solution to Climate Change. China has already started embracing Renewables, notwithstanding their continued investment in coal fired generation. That being said, we can’t rely on or wait for Government action.
