1. Gas is flammable at best and explosive at worst. It should be pumped into and stored in a container that won’t break (like glass), that can hold increased pressure if the gas gets warm and expands and that is airtight (so the explosive fumes aren’t out wandering around looking for a heat source). 2. Gas can react badly with some materials. If it’s in the wrong kind of plastic or rubber container its corrosive effects can weaken and rupture the container. 3. Gas stored in an unapproved container can be mistaken for something else. That glass gallon jug that used to have apple cider will look pretty much the same with gas in it. You wouldn’t drink it but a kid might try and gas can be lethal even in small quantities. 4. Static electricity sparks can set off a fire or explosion. Approved containers are designed to minimize that.
