Why should early childhood educators be alert to unreported head injuries?
It is unfortunate, but typical, that families fail to alert authorities, including educators, about accidents and other injuries that occur at home. There may be shame on the family’s part. In some instances, head injuries were actually caused by family members hitting young children. This is why, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, traumatic brain injuries may be much more common among young children than is suggested by official statistics.
