Why Should Children Learn A Musical Instrument?
It’s interesting to observe young children as they sit in front of the television watching a favorite movie. The characters or the story can be seen to have their total attention as they recite the script word for word. The same can be observed when they’re sitting in the classroom, absorbing every detail of an interesting story being read them. Without being an expert in child psychology, there is a key here as to why children should learn a musical instrument. Such observation shows that children are teachable. They absorb everything they hear and they can retain the information for years afterward. Lots of adults on the other hand, even though teachable do not absorb everything, even when they want to. Our attention spans can be less, as can the capacity to remember word-for-word what it is we are watching, hearing or studying. Whist it could be disputed that children who play a musical instrument do better in over-all schooling than those who don’t, it does seem that learning & pla
