Why should books not be banned or censored?
Well, just a few starters: * If books are banned, then ideas cannot flourish (one famous example is the devasation of book burning during Nazi regime). * Who decides what books should be banned and do you want someone to make this decision on your behalf? * Consider what your own life would be like if someone chooses what you read and you don’t have any decision–lots of folks want to ban Harry Potter simply because they think it promotes witchcraft. Whether you enjoy these books or not is truly irrelevant. Other folks have the right to read them regardless of any controversy about their content. * As US Citizens, our civic duty is to challenge those who want to ban and censor books — our liberty is threatened every time another library or store chooses to ban, censor (or not sell) books.
