Why should advanced and Cecchetti students be studying twice a week in order to take an exam?
The advanced and Cecchetti levels are very physically and mentally demanding. In order to properly condition the dancer’s body and cover all material that needs to be demonstrated, 2 classes per week are required to properly prepare students for these exams. Special exam classes are scheduled for Fridays at the Main Studio for this purpose. Sometimes younger students may choose to take more than one class a week in order to improve their dancing and prepare for exams. What happens in an exam? Students usually enter the exam 4 to 8 dancers at a time. They will be required to demonstrate all work they that have been practicing in class. Tap students will dance one at a time so that the examiner can hear how precise their tap sounds are. Jazz and Ballet students will demonstrate the exercises as a class or in small groups. Advanced jazz dancers will be given unseen combinations to show their proficiency in technique and ability to “think on their feet.” Theory questions will be asked one
