Why should a student put a yellow sticker on examination answer books?
Assessments methods may represent a particular barrier to students with specific learning difficulties, especially when this involves the use of timed examinations. The pressure of having to perform within limited time impacts on students’ abilities to structure and organize their thoughts as well as their ability to communicate their ideas clearly. Spelling, grammar, punctuation and sentence structure may all appear weak when compared to coursework, submitted by the same student. Even with an extra time allowance, most students with specific learning difficulties will still find it hard to demonstrate their knowledge and analytical skills under exam conditions. When attached to an examination script the sticker is intended to indicate that the script should be marked sympathetically.
