Why should a student participate in a learning community?
• Learning community students have higher semester and cumulative grade indexes. • Learning community participants have higher cumulative retention rates than non-learning community participants — nearly 5% percent higher. • Learning community students report an increase in class preparation time, more enjoyment with studying, and an increase in both time spent in and enjoyment of student collaboration on projects. In addition, instructors have shared that students in learning communities tend to be more interactive and less inhibited because they know each other and feel more comfortable participating in class.
