Why Should a Christian School Have a Mission Statement?
Defining the purpose of a Christian school is not merely a matter of coming to consensus concerning what a particular group of people want as the direction for the school, nor is it a matter of negotiating a compromise between competing interest groups. The purpose of a Christian school has to be based on a scriptural vision of Christian education, Its purpose should be an affirmation in response to scriptural revelation, with its central themes of creation, the fall into sin, redemption in Christ, and the fulfillment of God’s kingdom when Christ returns. A school cannot be everything to everyone. The people who support the school must understand where the school is going, why it is going there, and how it intends to get there. No two Christian schools, no matter how good, will be exactly alike; nor will either of them be all things to all people.
