Why “Semiconductors and Embedded Systems”?
● The first pilot program of HTCI targets the area of semiconductors and embedded systems. It includes more than twenty organizations some of which are multinationals, small and medium enterprises, research centers and University microelectronics labs. There are a number of reasons for this: ◦ There have recently been major foreign direct investments in the Greek semiconductors sector by multinational US-headquartered companies, such as ATMEL and PHOTRONICS, that have created Greek subsidiaries. These have acted as success stories and pilots for the local semiconductors sector. ◦ There are Greek SMEs in the semiconductors sector that have developed either on the basis of own funds or by attracting funds from Greek and foreign Venture Capitalists (VCs), or which are subsidiaries of large foreign companies in the microelectronics sector. ◦ The formation of the Hellenic Semiconductor Industry Association (HSIA), comprising of at least 15 companies (including Greek SMEs and multinational c
