Why saltwater crocodiles are larger than freshies?

Answer To quickly answer the questions and not get too terribly in depth the largest animal they would kill in nature would probably be a water buffalo. Salties are bigger than freshies mostly due to evolution and diet though there are still a lot of studies being conducted involving each species growth rate. Caiman and alligators are both members of the alligatoridae family therefore caiman pretty much are alligators. There are several different species of caiman so the difference between those and the american alligator would depend on what caiman species you were comparing.
