Why saltwater crocodiles are larger than freshies?

Salties are bigger than freshies mostly due to evolution and diet though there are still a lot of studies being conducted involving each species growth rate. Caiman and alligators are both members of the alligatoridae family therefore caiman pretty much are alligators. There are several different species of caiman so the difference between those and the american alligator would depend on what caiman species you were comparing.
