Why revise the Articles of Incorporation?

According to The Nonprofit Board’s Guide to Bylaws (2003), “the articles of incorporation should be as general as possible and should contain only the minimum that is required by state law. The goal is to have a general and flexible document that will not need to be amended” (p. 2). AAPC’s Articles of Incorporation were filed with the State of Missouri in 1964. While our general purpose has remained the same, we did find a need to update the language and clarify the purpose of AAPC as we move into the 21st century. The general purpose is retained, but some of the clarifying statements have been modified.
