Why retainers are required after braces?
During the gradual movement of the teeth, the supporting tissue of the teeth has to be remodeled to follow this movement. The remodeling usually takes longer than the movement of the teeth. So after the tooth stop moving, if no retainers are placed, the supporting tissue will tend to drag the tooth back to a previous position. To prevent this relapse, retainers are always required after braces.
