Why Restriction Gauges?
Because newer engines adjust fuel delivery to match air flow rates, they may not experience the traditional sputtering (like that of earlier engines), which used to indicate an air filter had become plugged. Visual inspection of an air filter is also not a dependable way to determine if an air filter has become plugged. A filter that looks dirty may still have life left in it, while a filter that appears clean may have become too restrictive. The use of an air filter restriction gauge is recommended to determine correct filter change intervals. Air filter restriction gauges monitor your air filter’s condition by measuring the air flow resistance of your air intake system. Now standard on many types of equipment, air restriction gauges measure the amount of vacuum created when air is pulled through the filter, measuring the build-up of dirt from a new filter’s installation throughout its useful life. A filter’s useful life is established by the equipment manufacturer’s recommended restr
