Why restore factory settings does not solve my laptop problem?

Sounds like a software problem to me, probably connected to the auto-update function of the OS. If the factory setting for example contain Windows XP or Vista without the latest service packs, the service pack will be loaded automatically once conncect to the internet. This may, depending on your hard/software, lead to crashes/system not starting. Solution is a clean new install (not the pre-configured factory default) of the OS with the latest service pack directly included instead of installing it afterwards. A less serious cause for your problem may be a simple driver problem, some of which can also be installed by the Windows update function. Good luck !
