There are several advantages to using the ICL32XX as a replacement device. The ICL32XX devices specify a maximum Icc of 1mA (even at 5.5V), versus the greater than 10mA typical of existing 5V devices. Advanced features like “automatic powerdown” (see ICL3217) reduce system power further, without changes to hardware or software. High data rates are standard, so system speeds can upgrade, or system margin improves.
