It takes one gallon of oil to make a new laser cartridge. Almost 8 cartridges a second are thrown away in the United States alone. In North America alone, over 350 million cartridges per year are discared in our landfills and that numer increases by 12% annually. A laser cartridge thrown into a landfill can take up to 450 years to decompose. Some components made of industrial grade plastics will take over 1000 years to decompose. A remanufactured cartridge saves nearly 3 1/2 pounds of solid waste from being deposited in landfills. Every single cartridge saved from a landfill makes a difference. But imagine the difference made when a million or even a thousand cartridges are saved? This would not only protrect our environment, but also save consumers thousands of dollars.
