Why Public Officials demean Community Journalists?
Recently there has been a recurring humiliation of Journalists mostly by Somaliland Public Officials. Somaliland presidency denied local press journalists to attend President Rayales press conference last week. Also, the Minister of state for Home and Public works, Mr. Adan Mohamed Diriye spoke noisily to disrupt the order of press conference of a group of opposition politicians on Sunday. Furthermore, the minister assaulted one of the Journalists in the meeting, turning the scene of the conference into anarchy and confusion. Prominent government officials use demeaning expressions against Journalists that ask questions after their press conferences. They humiliate journalists as being unqualified and lacking the knowledge of the subject matter. Somaliland Journalists took part the struggle of this nation to free from the oppression they suffered under the former tyrant dictator of Mohamed Siyad Barre.
