Why public colleges and institutes?
Our institutions have filled an obvious need, as demonstrated by the degree of their public acceptance and participation. More than thirty-five years after the establishment of community colleges, and all our other institutions, they continue to serve the educational and vocational needs of a large segment of British Columbia’s population, as well as the immediate and longer-term needs of the provincial economy. The remainder of this introductory section briefly: • describes the geographic and demographic scope of the system; • identifies the key players, and; • provides a preliminary view of the corporate and individual responsibilities of governors.
