Why prosthetic limbs?
The prosthetic limbs help restore some of the functions of the lost limb including walking and performing other routine activities. Evolving technologies are now helping amputees to restore most of their biological functions. There are several conditions where amputation of the limb is required. These conditions include, 1. Diabetes Mellitus: Gangrene is the common complication of diabetes which requires amputation. However the condition is not associated with major limb loss. 2. Cancers: Cancer of the bone or soft tissue more often result in loss of the limb and require prosthetic support 3. Infections and Vascular disorders: Infections and vascular disorders are synergistic conditions, where impaired circulation causes secondary infection, which may lead to gangrene. 4. Accidents or Injuries: One of the most common causes of limb loss. 5. Congenital limb anomalies: With some children born with limb defects, they would require artificial limbs and prosthesis, to help them live a life
