Why propranolol used in portal hypertension but not selective beta blocker?

because selective beta blockers work mostly in the heart. Non selective B2 antagonists work better on the liver. In my pharmacology class we have talked about how recommendations are made. I dont know of the study but I’m sure there was a study on beta blockers and portal HTN and propranolol was the most beneficial.
