Why penicillin and streptomycin are used in cell culture?
Because when cultivating eukariotic, live cells, you need a “clean” environment, and the trick, is to avoid bacterial contamination of the tissues or cells you are preparing, penicillin and streptomycin WILL NOT affect nor damage the cultivated eukariotic human or animal cell, but kills most of the invading, or contaminating bacteriae that you can get into a culture environment…. And many others are used, (vancomycin, lincomycin, ampicillin etc) with the same purpose.,….
