Why only100 beds if the area is growing so quickly?
The decision to build a 100-bed hospital reflects regulatory and review procedures by the State of Illinois. A larger facility with more beds would have faced greater difficulty in winning regulatory approval. Because unused beds would raise operating costs, the state strives to limit the number of beds it approves. In approving the Certificate of Need for this project, the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board acknowledged that our growth projections in determining the need for 100 all-private beds were “reasonable and attainable.” However, the design of the building will readily allow us to add space and beds when volume justifies expansion.
