Why one or even more therapy centres?
During our tour we talked a lot about medical treatment with the people in Africa. We quickly realized that rehabilitation after physical injury is inadequate or non-existent. The necessary aid or training measures to improve a persons mobility and make him fit for work again are not available. Most people do not even know what physiotherapy and ergotherapy are. In most cases they are left to fend for themselves after acute medical treatment. Not everybody can afford to hire a craftsman who can make the necessary aid equipment (e.g. walking sticks/crutches or a wheelchair) for them. Peoples independence is often considerably restricted. Many have to beg on the streets because they cannot work any longer and are no longer integrated into the society. And this is where we want to make a start. We want to improve these peoples quality of life and re-integrate them into everyday life and work. By instructing family members and training interested people we can thus help people to help them
