Why on application forms for jobs do employers ask explanations for all gaps in between jobs?
If you have reasonable explanations, then it isn’t a red flag. Too many gaps or too long of a gap could be an indicator of something that could affect your job performance should they hire you. (This person has a volatile temper and keeps quitting jobs, before having secured another one.) Be careful how you explain some circumstances though, while completely legitimate reasons, and it would techinically be illegal for someone to not hire you based on that reason, it would be hard to prove. I’m thinking along the lines of you or your child having a chronic illness that had to be dealt with. Most people have some gaps in employment. If you have gaps and you have a reasonable explanation, then prospective employers are not likely to hold it against you.
