Why Obstetrics & Gynecology?
If you are interested in an exciting, fast-paced field, caring for patients at the office and the OR, Ob Gyn is the field for you. The one thing that I think all medical students should realize is that most of your residency you will be operating. Sure, primary care is emphasized in our training but you still need to like the OR and should not mind the hours too much. You should enjoy both surgery and office level care. After residency training, you can choose to subspecialize in Maternal Fetal Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Gynecologic Oncology or Pelvic Reconstruction/Urogynecology. Where to apply? Ob Gyn programs are available in both academic centers and community hospitals. Academic programs are affiliated with major hospitals and offer the opportunity to work closely with individuals renowned in the field.
