Why Not Use Windows or Zip Passwords?
The truth of the matter is that passwords used in some programs can be cracked in seconds, minutes, hours or days. If you are concerned about the security of your information, the surprising truth is that many security systems are seriously flawed. Windows passwords can be retrieved quite easily and sometimes instantly. That is Windows’ stored passwords can be retrieved. If you ask Windows to store your passwords, then an attacker can retrieve the whole lot! Some archives can be cracked instantly. At the other extreme, RAR 2.x archives appear to be uncrackable. Zip archives can usually be cracked in at most a few hours. Previous versions of Office software (95, 97) can be easily cracked. Office 2000 is limited because of the size of the password allowed in non-USA versions of Windows.
