Also a good idea. Small high speed glass reed switches can be purchased with very quick bounce times as low as 3.0 ms. Only problem about them would be a way to positioning them and adjusting them to the right height to register a press. The other big problem is that the acrylic panels will develop a static charge during its operation thus, will produce a magnetic field thus screwing up the operation of the reed switch.
