Why not use solar cells on the payload bay doors for electricity supply of Shuttle?

ANSWER from Andrew Petro on April 21, 1997: That was not done on the Space Shuttle because the inside of the doors are already used as a place for radiators which are needed to reject the heat that is generated by the equipment and the people on the Shuttle. Also, the Shuttle payload bay is not always pointed at the sun and so the panels might not get enough sunlight to be very useful. Return to top.
