Why not use an open source alternative?
When HUMIS was in the design phase it was clear that the use of an open source system was possible but that it would have to be extended to fit our needs. There is a fair amount of overhead to any system and three years ago it wasn’t entirely clear which system would take off. It was more efficient to build a database that would fit the University taxonomy and its business practices rather than to take a open source system and modify to the point that every upgrade was an extremely painful process.
