Why not set tuition to cover all expenses and dispense with the Annual Fund?
Tax-deductible contributions to the Annual Fund allow us to keep tuition increases lower than they would be without it and enable some families who could otherwise not afford to attend GDS to send their children here. If each student’s tuition covered the full price of his/her educational expense, GDS has many families who could not afford to pay full tuition, but would not qualify for financial assistance. Additionally, many of the individuals, corporations and foundations that consider contributing to GDS look at the giving patterns of those closest to our school and favor giving to organizations that receive a great deal of internal support from members and beneficiaries (in our case, our families, faculty and alumni). Supporting the Annual Fund is a way of leveraging other gifts.
